How to use the Malt Extract Agar packets
These are pre portioned packets of our signature malt extract agar mix. Fast and easy to use. There are two methods available for preparing your agar.
First method: Empty the packet into a size appropriate pressure cooker safe container, we suggest a mason jar or a media container, then fill it with the matching amount of water. Shake until the contents are mixed well. Sterilize in a pressure cooker or autoclave for 25 minutes at 15psi making sure the lid is slightly cracked to even out pressure. Let cool to 47c/115f then pour into your choice of plates. Pour thinner to encourage a more rhizomorphic mycelium.
Second method: Mix the contents of the packet into a pot with the matching amount of water. Bring it to a light simmer so the powder mixes in with the liquid. Pour it out into pressure cooker safe containers that are a little bit taller to prevent overflow. Pour it fairly thin to promote rhizomorphic mycelium. Sterilize in pressure cooker or autoclave for 25 minutes at 15psi. cool to room temperature before use.
All of these methods are great and have different pros and cons. So use whatever works best for you!
How to store the packets
